New Zealand at present has 8 state-funded universities. These are:
- University of Auckland (Auckland)
- Victoria University of Wellington (Wellington)
- University of Otago (Dunedin)
- University of Canterbury (Christchurch)
- University of Waikato (Hamilton)
- Massey University (Palmerston North)
- Lincoln University (Christchurch)
