PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
• Ensures that the maintenance, breakdown services and/or electrical/electronic repairs of container handling cranes and RTGs are maintained in a cost effective manner, with consideration given to quality work and longevity of equipment.
• Reads job order and plans work procedures.
• Carries out electrical/electronic maintenance and repair service for all crane equipment. Disassembles units and inspects equipment.
• Provides maintenance and repair services for container handling gantry cranes and RTGs.
• Submits routine and critical inspection and monitoring reports, ensuring log book is accurate and up-to-date.
• Ensures work conforms to safety rules and regulation.
• Ensure tidiness and cleanliness of workshop facilities and all equipment..
• Reads electrical schematic diagrams, service manuals, analyzes & investigates electrical faults.
• Determine cause of failure of electrical/electronic components of crane equipment.


Job Requirements

CRITICAL REQUIREMENTS/SKILLS:
• B.Eng/B.Sc/HND/Diploma in Mechanical, Electrical or Electronic Engineering from recognized institution. Any additional training in both electrical/electronic fields in any heavy industries will be an advantage.
• Requires at least Two to Four years of experience in crane maintenance section in any ports, mines, steel or manufacturing plants, including specific knowledge of electrical/electronic and related subjects.
• Must be able to replace/repair/adjust major electrical/electronic parts such as PLC drive control system, communication drive system, at a high level of difficulty and complexity
• Requires an in-depth ability to interpret electrical/electronic diagram, simple engineering drawings, layouts and specifications.
• Requires a general knowledge of electrical and electronic components
• Requires general familiarity with instrumentation and communications systems, and a familiarity with control systems.
• Requires general knowledge and background in technical applications of digital and analogue electronics.
• Required ability to keep work area organized, neat and efficiently planned.
• Requires the ability to learn fast.
• Valid Driver’s License.

In its drive to implement this project, UNOPS wishes to recruit a Training & Workshop Consultant that will provide strategic and tactical direction in all areas of training and the organization of workshop(s) in the related areas as may be necessary. This position is responsible for the planning, organization, coordination and monitoring of the in country workshops with NAPTIN and other relevance institutions in the power sector.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Training and Workshop consultant under the direct supervision of the Programme Coordinator will support and provide programmatic inputs to the training and related workshops activities. Specifically, the consultant will undertake the following tasks:

-Follow up on the progress of the roll out of the training and workshop(s) activities and in collaboration with other relevant UNOPS staff; provide timely and relevant information to the relevant institutions on the project as may be required;
-In consultation with relevant Institutions, produce a strategic orientation document on the training communications and workshop(s) programmes;
-Organize, coordinate and manage workshop activities, including development of workshop materials and agenda in consultation with workshop facilitators and relevant institutions;

COMPETENCIES

Advanced university degree in social sciences, combined with experience in participatory communication, participatory research, training and impact evaluation.
-At least 2 years in a corporate technical learning function in a management capacity.
-Track record of at least three relevant assignments (trainings or workshop consultancy and advisory services) as a reliable expert/consultant in the field of capacity building is essential;
-Experience conducting needs assessments and organizational surveys;
-Ability to build credibility at all levels within the organization;
-Previous experience in preparation of and delivery of training/workshops in the related fields;
-Excellent analytical, communication and facilitation skills as well as writing experience;
-Proven ability to effectively manage relationships with government officials and other programme partners;

Jean-Marc Hachey provides the most comprehensive guide to help young North American professionals make long term plans and take action to build their international careers. No other guide reviews as many resources for in-depth exploration of specific topics, which are indexed in categories such as country / region and type of work. You may either purchase the print or the constantly updated user-friendly web edition on the site.

CampusCareerCenter.com, www.campuscareercenter.com, has some very useful articles and resources for those seeking International jobs.

Dave’s ESL CafĂ©, www.eslcafe.com, by Dave Sperling. Site has a staggering amount of well-organized information about teaching and other types of work abroad; links to hundreds of job databases of particular interest to teachers, college students, and liberal arts graduates. A recommended resource for anyone interested work as an English teacher abroad.

Included are links to campus resources and contacts but also a host of career development tools (including resume help, guides to international job hunting, etc.) and links to web sites and pages that specialize in posting career opportunities and resources worldwide.

Goinglobal, www.goinglobal.com, presents an assessment of employment trends in 25 different countries from experts on site. They also sell country-specific resource guides in .pdf format which provide inside information about job possibilities not readily available in the public domain.

Idealist.org, www.idealist.org. This site’s claim of tens of thousands of organizations “under one roof” says it all. Excellent search provisions give useful results using “internship” or “volunteer.” Also has lists of volunteer, internship and job opportunities. Search possible by country, type of work, and many other variables. The “browse by country” section lists organizations according to their work focus. Site includes organizations worldwide, not only U.S.-based ones.

Impact Publications, www.impactpublications.com by Ronald L. Krannich and Caryl R. Krannich. This publisher carries one of the most extensive selections of books on working abroad and international careers. The Krannichs’ own International Jobs Directory lists hundreds of web sites and gives an outstanding overview of international jobs and careers.

International Career Employment Center (Carlyle Corporation), www.internationaljobs.org. Not a jobs web site, this nonprofit organization publishes two of the best listings of international jobs: International Career Employment Opportunities (weekly) and International Employment Hotline. The site gives examples of their listings but does not list current openings without a subscription.

International Resources Center: University of Michigan, www.umich.edu/~icenter/swt/work/index.html, is hosted by Transitions Abroad's Work Abroad editor William Nolting. The site is a treasure-trove of resources for students seeking work abroad - as well as providing extensive study, living and travel abroad information.

LatPro.com, www.latpro.com, is an outstanding site for bilingual Americans or Latin Americans seeking work in the U.S. or abroad.

Liberal Arts Career Services of the University of Texas at Austin, www.utexas.edu/cola/lacs/international_jobs, is a comprehensive web site designed for college students seeking information about international short and long-term opportunities.

The Monster Board, globalgateway.monster.com, lists jobs by international location and links to job databases for specific countries. Thousands of jobs are listed, most for engineers or managers and virtually all requiring previous experience.

Overseas Digest, www.overseasdigest.com. A meta-search engine for overseas jobs which features some useful resources and articles as well.

Overseas Jobs Express, www.overseasjobs.com. British-based site claims to list vacancies that are open to non-citizens of the target country. It has databases of career positions for specific countries or regions.

WORKING IN SOUTH AFRICA

South Africa work permit

South Africa is wonderful work destination from many angles; the African society has a bit of everything from all the countries. It has something of France, something of India, something of USA, something from UK and sometimes for UAE. You can say that everyone can get something in Africa.

The applications for work permit usually take very little ? one week to ten days. You will have to apply with the South Africa Embassy for it.

South Africa has both the society as well as the education system very similar to that of India. Their rural developments as well as unemployment issues are more or less like that of India hence, you will be made comfortable during the interview. Be careful though that they are quite strict about work and working hours. However they totally freak out partying during the weekend.

A work permit for South Africa is equal to a temporary residential permit and hence the visa and the work permit will be considered as one.

Work Permit
In South Africa, the work permit is actually a temporary residential permit.

The application is supposed to be processed from the local South African High Commission. Only the employer can apply for the work permit for the employee. The employee himself/herself cannot apply. You will need to show/ provide a contract that covers the following points:

  • Day-to-day management stays with the service provider
  • The job should have warranted deliverables
  • The contract should cover the entire period for which the permit is applied for
  • It should be offered on the letterhead of the client with the signature of both parties

Once you are offered work permit ? after your employer gets it for you ? you need not apply for a visa. The visa is offered automatically with the issue of the work permit.

The employer will have to convince the authorities that the foreigner invited for the job can do the best job ever and that there can be no substitute for this worker from the local work force. The application will contain the following:

  • Date when the vacation fell open
  • Places where the vacancy has been advertised in the newspapers
  • Valid reasons why local African people could not employed for the same job
  • The possibility of having a small group of people trained by the incoming foreigner
  • What exactly exceptional qualifications/ capabilities does the foreigner have
  • The position should be commensurate to the person's qualification and skill-set

The following documents will be needed:

  • Application forms ? BI-159, A and C
  • Marriage certificate where applicable
  • Employment contract showing the time, designation and the remuneration for the said employee
  • CV
  • Medical certificate
  • Proof of the advertisement in the Newspapers and why the locals were found unsuitable
  • English translation of all the certificates required
  • Birth certificate of self
  • Testimonials of the employee proving his/her fit for the job

The basic requirements for entering South Africa

  • Passport ? should be valid for the whole period that you intend to stay (and are applying for)
  • A valid visa
  • Sufficient funds for the period you are likely to stay
  • Yellow fever vaccination certificate
